CAROLINE SWINDELL

(she/her)

owner & therapist

I specialize in working with LGTBQIA+ individuals and couples who are struggling with trauma/PTSD, grief, attachment wounds, and relational issues. I work with clients holistically and fuse a “relationship approach” with somatic healing such as EMDR, IFS, and EFT therapies.

TL;DR

Before I started my own therapy journey, I thought that if I were “perfect” or “good enough,” everything in my life would be better. I believed that if I could know why I was feeling the way I did, I could fix it and wouldn’t feel that way anymore. After years of my own healing, I finally learned that I didn’t have to be perfect. Instead, I could accept and nurture who I am right now. I didn’t have to change to accept myself.

In my work with clients, I fully believe that you are capable of your own healing, sometimes we just need guidance, so I am just here as the GPS. If someone is grappling with connecting to their inner voice, I support them in moving past what is holding them back from true self-acceptance and growth. I’m here to help you listen to, trust, and strengthen that inner voice so you can keep moving forward.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and a Professional School Counselor in North Carolina. I am certified in play therapy and previously worked in both residential and school settings before transitioning to private practice. My focus areas include supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples, addressing trauma/PTSD, relationship issues, gender and sexuality, attachment wounds, grief, and body image concerns. I emphasize somatic healing and incorporate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy).

My goal in sessions is to create a space where clients can feel emotionally secure. For some, this may mean providing a space to be heard and to feel safe, while for others, we work together to foster understanding and compassion for the inner child. If a client requests, we may incorporate spiritual elements such as tarot, astrology, or chakra alignment into sessions. For those who are only “a little stitious” and want to learn more, I can accommodate your beliefs, cultural identity, and level of comfort.

Therapy can feel scary and inaccessible, so it’s important to me to help clients feel they are connecting with a real person on the other side of the room. My clients often describe me as warm, intuitive, direct, and funny.

I am availabile for virtual sessions in NC.

A peek into who I am:

  • I identify as a queer cis-woman.

  • I stay grounded by using spirituality and astrology.

  • My favorite ways to move my body are daily walks, yoga, hiking, and horseback riding.

  • I love dogs, cats, and animals of all kinds! I have three dogs, and one you might hear snoring sleeping underneath my desk most days.

  • When I’m not in session you can find me exploring coffee shops, thrifting, volunteering at the humane society, and shopping for new plants.

Tell your dog I say hi :)
